HBO has released the official key art and several teasers for upcoming crime anthology True Detective. From novelist Nic Pizzolatto and set in 1995, the eight-episode first season tells the story of Louisiana detectives Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rustin Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) as they track a notorious serial killer throughout the course of 17 years. Hart and Cohle get called in to help the detectives who have the reins in the case in 2012 and get a chance to close the door once and for all on one of the most important parts of their lives. Will they find the peace that has eluded them for nearly two decades and bring the person responsible for the string of murders to justice? True Detective will reportedly tell one complete story during its first season and move on to a different case/type of criminal in a (currently hypothetical) second season in a similar model to what The Killing was thought to be working under when it debuted in 2011.
