Penny Dreadful Adds Billie Piper, Helen McCrory, Danny Sapani, and Simon Russell Beale

Upcoming Showtime thriller Penny Dreadful has added four new cast members in Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Helen McCrory (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 & 2), Danny Sapani (The Bill), and Simon Russell Beale (My Week with Marilyn). Piper will play Irish immigrant Brona Croft, who moves to London in search of a fresh start, while McCrory is set to portray spiritualist Madame Kali, Sapani will portray an African warrior named Sembene, and Russell Beale Ferdinand Lyle, a noted Egyptologist. From John Logan (Gladiator), Sam Mendes (American Beauty), and Pippa Harris (Call the Midwife), Penny Dreadful brings together several prominent literary figures Dr. Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dorian Gray, among others within the confines of Victorian London, where their origin stories will be told and the themes of alienation and what it means to be a monster will get explored.
